| Column | Example entry | Why it's there |
|---|---|---|
| Stage | Santorini · 4 nights | Two or three stages max. Moving every two nights is not a honeymoon. |
| Signature experience | Sunset catamaran | One memorable thing per stage beats five good ones. |
| Rest day | Day 3 — nothing planned | Written down, so it is protected rather than accidental. |
| Reservation | 20:30 · smart casual | Dress codes and booking times, in one place. |
| A / B must-do | A: winery · B: hike | The simplest way to avoid the trip becoming one person's plan. |
| Splurge line | €400 — one night upgrade | Decide the splurge in advance and enjoy it guilt-free. |

How to use it
- 1Pick two or three stages maximum, four nights each where you can.
- 2Choose one signature experience per stage and book it early.
- 3Mark at least one full rest day per stage and defend it.
- 4Each partner writes one must-do per stage.
- 5Tell hotels it's a honeymoon or anniversary when booking — upgrades and extras are common.
- 6Agree the splurge line before you go, not at the restaurant.
Planning advice that matters
Slower is the whole point
The most common honeymoon regret is a schedule borrowed from a sightseeing trip. Two locations over ten nights, with genuinely empty days, produces a better trip than five locations and a highlight reel. Travel days are the enemy of a romantic trip.
Balance two wish lists honestly
Write both lists before planning. One person's dream trip imposed on two people is the classic source of mid-trip friction. Giving each partner an explicit must-do per stage costs almost nothing and resolves it before it starts.
Say it's a special occasion
Hotels, restaurants and tour operators routinely add something — a room upgrade, a dessert, a better table — when they know it is a honeymoon or an anniversary. Mention it in the booking notes and again at check-in. It costs nothing and works surprisingly often.
The splurge, decided in advance
Every good romantic trip has one expensive thing. Deciding what it is before you leave — the overwater room, the tasting menu, the private boat — means you enjoy it instead of negotiating about it. Everything else can then be sensible without feeling mean.
Three mistakes this template prevents
Too many locations
Packing and checking out is the least romantic activity there is. Fewer stages, more nights.
Leaving reservations to the day
The restaurant you saw photos of is booked out for two weeks. Reserve the important dinners before you fly.
Planning only one person's trip
Two must-do columns is a small structural fix for a very common problem.
Frequently asked
How long should a honeymoon itinerary be?+
Seven to twelve nights across two or three locations works best. Below a week you spend a large share of the trip travelling; above two weeks most couples want more variety than a romantic itinerary provides.
Should I plan every day of a honeymoon?+
No. Plan one signature experience per stage and one or two dinners, and leave the rest open. The template deliberately marks rest days so they don't get filled in.
Do honeymoon upgrades actually happen?+
Frequently — but only if the property knows. Add it to the booking notes and mention it at check-in. It's the highest-return thirty seconds of honeymoon planning.
